GEMMA DOYLE: Australia’s best in the Alternative/Country/Blues Genre
Being involved in the music business can be a rough ride for many
but for singer and musician, Gemma Doyle it’s a relationship she
was born to pursue. Telling her parents that she wanted to quit school
at fourteen and spend her life writing and singing was pretty straight
forward for Gemma but her family had a different view of her dream.
However fate works in mysterious ways, Gemma came to the attention of
producer Michael Flanders. Michael was struck by the tone and maturity
in her voice and strongly believed this young girl had a future in the
industry. That was six years ago and since then Gemma has achieved more
than most already.
Gemma recorded her first EP CRYING GAME taking out the 2002 EP
Award Of The Year followed by her debut album TWISTS & TURNS
late 2002.
Nominations flowed with finalist berths in – 2003 Aus Ind CM Awards
Rising Star Female / 2003 Aus CM People’s Choice Awards / 2003
Top Ten finalist CMAA Aus CM Awards.
She has played at the world famous Woodford Folk Festival and was one
of the nine emerging artists selected to showcase their talents in front
of an overseas crowd at the Australian International Music Market in
Brisbane.
Late 2006 saw the release of her second album NOTHING. Gemma’s
journey continues on, with all but one of the ten tracks written by
Gemma, on her latest offering.
Her new release has given her the title of being Australia’s best
in the Alternative/Country/Blues genre which suits her fine.
Gemma’s much acclaimed Permission To Breathe film clip
saw her named a finalist at the 2006 Sunscreen Awards, as well as a
finalist in Video Clip of the Year at the CMAA’s Australian CM
Awards.
Early 2007 saw her being asked to walk the red carpet with Australia’s
major artists at the Golden Guitar awards.
She is a naturally gifted songwriter whose unique sound and music is
currently being aired internationally.
Gemma’s music is hard to categorise, stretching from country to
contemporary. Having already released two singles Permission To Breathe
(Top 30 CMC video chart) and Again from her album NOTHING,
her unique vocals and style come to the fore with new single All
I Want Is Tonight (Top 100 Country Hits chart). Gemma has made her
mark on Channel 9’s The Music Jungle, ABCTV’s Rage and paytv
channel CMC.
“The languid bluesy vocals of Brisbane singer/songwriter Gemma
Doyle have never sounded better than in this, her brand new cd ‘Nothing’”.
Deborah Minter, CapNews
